Summer Safaris & ExcursionsDepartures 2010All safaris require the participation of at least 2 adults on stated days. On other days safaris require the participation of at least 6 persons. Children 4-14 years receive a 50% discount. Children under 4 years free of charge. Riverboat Cruise (at 17.00)A traditional riverboat will embark for the cruise from the harbour, which lies near to city centre hotels. We'll cruise along the Ounasjoki and Kemijoki rivers, giving you the opportunity to admire the beautiful surrounding nature of peaceful green islands and the Ounasvaara fell - the highest point of Rovaniemi.
Riverboat Cruise to a Reindeer Farm (at 14.00)Come for a boat cruise along a traditional log-floating route to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the valleys of the Ounasjoki and Kemijoki rivers. Travel through serene landscapes in a long wooden riverboat and experience the summer of the Arctic Circle. Later, you'll learn about herding practices while visiting a reindeer farm. Enjoy a cup of hot coffee and participate in a ceremonial crossing of the Arctic Circle during your visit to the farm.
Quad Bike Safari (at 10.00)Our guide will meet you at your hotel reception, after which we will go to our safari office to get the equipment for the drive. After receiving some instructions on driving and safety we will head off to the wilderness on our quad bikes. These ATVs will take us to various interesting places and on the way we are able to admire the sights of the Lappish nature. We will have a break to enjoy coffee with biscuits. If we are lucky, we will also see some of the animals, from reindeer to the Siberian Jay, inhabiting the Lappish forests. After our adventure we will return to the safari office.
Safari not recommend for children under 12 years. Children sitting a passengers will pay adult price.
Thrills of Nature (at 10.00)Our guide is waiting for you at your hotel reception to take us to our safari office for the needed gear. We will head by car to Vaattunki, which is located 20 km to the North. We will have a guided nature tour on an island in the Arctic Circle Hiking Area. The landscape's signature features is the river with its spectacular rapids and lush shoreline forest. We will learn a lot of interesting facts about Lappish nature while enjoying the tranquillity. A cup of coffee with pancakes will be served by a campfire before we take the canoes and have a chance to look at the island from another angle. After the adventure it is time to return to the city centre by car.
Visit to Ranua Wildlife Park (at 10.00)In the morning our guide will meet you at the hotel and together you will make a 1-hour drive to Ranua. In Ranua, situated 80 km from Rovaniemi, you will find the world's Northernmost wildlife park. The park displays approximately 60 different species of arctic and northern animals, such as the only polar bears in Finland, the wolf, the lynx, the wolverine, the reindeer, the common otter and many many more! You can watch the animals as they romp about in their spacious enclosures. The walking path around the park is approx. 2 km long.
After the tour around the park you enjoy lunch in the Wildlife Park's restaurant. You can also visit the Wildlife Park's castle where several souvenir shops, a small wine shop selling products made from local Arctic berries and Fazer candy shop are located. In the afternoon we say goodbye to the animals of Ranua Wildlife Park and return back to Rovaniemi and your hotel.
Santa Claus SafariWe welcome you to come and experience the most important elements of the magical ambience of Lapland! Your adventure begins with a refreshing cruise on a traditional riverboat along the Kemijoki and Ounasjoki rivers. A visit to the home of Lappish family and their workshop is the first stop on our cruise. After this, the riverboat will take you to a local reindeer farm, where you can learn about Lappish culture and reindeer rearing. Enjoy a delicious Lappish lunch and participate in a ceremonial crossing of the Arctic Circle during your visit to the farm. In the afternoon, the tour continues by car to the Santa Claus Village for a meeting with Mr. Claus himself, after which you have a chance to do some shopping before returning to the city.
Midnight Sun ExperienceOur evening begins with a restful cruise on a traditional long and open riverboat along River Kemijoki, which is surrounded by beautiful summer scenery. A local-style evening meal will be prepared by your guide in the middle of nature. Before midnight, you'll be driven to the top of Ounasvaara Fell to admire the fascinating midnight sun and the tranquil nature. Then we raise a toast for the magical feeling of the white nights of Lapland with a glass of sparkling wine. You will be escorted back to your hotel after the programme.
